Sea Shield Marine Aluminum and Zinc Anodes for Propeller Shafts
Sacrificial shaft anodes are as important as the shaft they are protecting. Make sure and purchase the right material for your application. Typically we recommend zinc for saltwater and aluminum for fresh or brackish water. During installation, the anode should be up against the propeller during installation. Additionally, it is ok to leave some clearance on the other side where the bearing is.
These shaft anodes are designed by divers with installation in mind. Simply split the anode into the two halves, and then screw them together again around the shaft. This allows for installation without removing the propeller from the shaft. Don’t forget to push the anode up against the propeller, and leave between a quarter and half an inch between the shaft anode and the bearing.
